Champion jockey Robert Thompson has claimed an 11th Jungle Juice Cup, the biggest race of the year at Cessnock, his home track.
Thompson steered Youthful King to the nine-year-old gelding's fourth win in the race, giving his trainer and the jockey's close friend, Jeremy Sylvester, his eighth Jungle Juice Cup.
Appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in June and inducted into the Racing Hall Of Fame last month, Thompson has ridden more winners than any other Australian jockey.
But the joy of riding in the country has never waned and Thompson was ecstatic after Wednesday's race.
"These are my Group Ones here in my own back yard," Thompson told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
"To team up with Jeremy and this horse again is unbelievable.
"Jeremy has done a marvellous job with Youthful King. He loves his home track."
Youthful King first won the Cup in 2011 and followed up with victories in the past three years.
Thompson heads to Grafton on Wednesday to ride I've Got The Looks in the Ramornie Handicap (1200m).
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained mare is the favourite in the Listed Sprint.
