Civic Stakes for Gerald Ryan stablemates

Monday 29 June 2015, 3:33pm

Stablemates Dances On Stars and Estonian Princess still have something to give after their Queensland carnival campaigns and are set to run in the Civic Stakes at Rosehill.

Trainer Gerald Ryan said both were in good order with Saturday's Listed race a good option for stable stalwart Dances On Stars and a chance for Estonian Princess to post another win before she is retired to stud.

"They have both come back from Queensland in good order and if I'm happy with them after they work on Tuesday morning they will both run," Ryan said.

"There is also the Winter Stakes two weeks later for them. After that Dances On Stars will have a spell and Estonian Princess will be off to stud."

Estonian Princess's best performance in four Queensland starts was her second in the Listed Silk Stocking won by I've Got The Looks at the Gold Coast on April 25.

Dances On Stars had five runs over the carnival with a third behind Srikandi and Ball Of Muscle in the Group Two Victory Stakes the stand-out.

At his most recent outing he finished fourth in the Group Three Anniversary Vase won by Dothraki who is the top-rated of 17 entries for the Civic Stakes (1350m).

Ryan was pleased with the effort.

"That was over 1200 metres and surprisingly he's won over 1100 and 1300 metres but never 1200," he said.

"Brenton Avdulla and Jason Collett will ride them on Saturday but I'm not sure yet which jockey is on which horse."

Wyong trainer Kristen Buchanan will consider backing Two Blue up in the race after her 1200m win on Saturday.

Buchanan is keen to get black-type beside the six-year-old mare's name and will monitor her during the week.

The Ryan-trained Achilles Two is one of 17 youngsters entered for the 2YO handicap (1200m) and goes to the race off a barrier trial win on Friday.

"He is a nice colt and goes like a horse who needs 1400 to 1600 metres," Ryan said.

"But he's forward enough to go to the races now."
