Postiive news on injured jockeys

Sunday 28 June 2015, 3:06pm

Injured jockeys Eddie Creighton and Amy Herrmann both remain in hospital but their conditions are improving.

Creighton suffered a broken wrist and concussion in a fall at Warrnambool on Saturday and was transferred to Melbourne's Alfred Hospital when he suffered a seizure.

The Victorian Jockeys Association said Creighton had improved overnight.

"His head injury responded well overnight and he underwent surgery on his left wrist this morning," the VJA said.

"He is conscious and responsive and all signs are positive."

Herrmann has been in Royal Adelaide Hospital since last Friday week when she was placed in an induced coma.

She fell when her horse stumbled after jumping the final obstacle in a hurdle trial at Morphettville.

A statement on behalf of her family said the news was positive.

"On Saturday afternoon, doctors in the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Adelaide Hospital withdrew all sedation to Amy and she is now conscious, and responsive to doctors and family," the statement said.

"Amy's improvement over the eight days has been as good as could have been possibly hoped for after such a serious injury.

"She is being transferred from ICU to the ward.

"The family will provide another update on Tuesday."

Queensland apprentices Sairyn Fawke and Emma Ljung are both back home after falls over the past week.

Fawke fell from his mount in the Rockhampton Cup on June 20 and spent several days in hospital.

Ljung, who rode her first metropolitan winner at Doomben on Saturday afternoon, has a cracked collar bone and muscle soreness after a fall a few hours later at the Toowoomba night meeting.
