Shinn returns to continue premiership bid

Friday 26 June 2015, 4:47pm

Blake Shinn returns from suspension at Rosehill on Saturday needing winners in a hurry if he is to claim the Sydney jockeys' premiership.

And Chris Waller looms as the trainer most likely to oblige after booking Shinn to ride in-form two-year-old Libidosun in the TAB Place Multi Handicap.

A winner of two of his five starts, Libidosun will back up after finishing second on a rain-affected track to Backstab at Randwick last week.

"He's sneaking up in the weights a little but there's no reason why he can't win," Waller said.

One of the shortest-priced favourites for the meeting at $2.10, Libidosun is one of six Rosehill mounts for Shinn.

Shinn will also ride the Peter Moody-trained It's About You, the $2.30 favourite to win the Significant Stakes.

It's About You heads to Sydney after a recent Mornington win and a last-start Moonee Valley placing.

Shinn has ridden 81-1/2 metropolitan winners in Sydney this season to sit third behind James McDonald (88-1/2) and Hugh Bowman (83) in the race for the jockeys' premiership.

He is the outsider of the trio to win the title with Bowman a firming favourite in the absence of McDonald who is riding in England until the middle of next month.

Bookmakers rate Danchai the best of Bowman's Rosehill rides with the Waller-trained stayer the only last-start winner in the Listed Winter Cup.

Danchai returns from a hit-and-run Queensland campaign when he landed the Ipswich Cup, his first Australian win in 13 starts.

The former UK galloper has kept his place as favourite despite solid backing for another import, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Bonfire.

Godolphin apprentice Brodie Loy will miss the Rosehill meeting after scans revealed he suffered shoulder and hand injuries in a barrier stalls incident at Canterbury on Wednesday.

He has been replaced on three Godolphin runners by New Zealand apprentice Rory Hutchings while Koby Jennings has also picked up a ride for the leading stable.
