Yendall closing in on McDonald's tally

Tuesday 23 June 2015, 7:20am

A treble at Mildura has Dean Yendall in striking range of James McDonald in the battle to be the country's leading rider for the season.

The Victorian's three winners on Monday takes his tally to 138 winners for 2014/15 while McDonald is on 140.5.

With the Sydney-based McDonald in England until mid-July, Yendall, who rides most days of the week, has the chance to overhaul him.

Melbourne's premier trainer Darren Weir had one winner on Monday to equal his season-best of 253 with Sydney's leading trainer Chris Waller on 192.
