Byrne posts century with Feels Like Home

Saturday 20 June 2015, 12:42pm

Leading jockey Jim Byrne brought up his 100th winner for the season with a daring ride on Feels Like Home on Saturday.

Byrne charged through the field aboard Feels Like Home ($12) to score by a length to She's Miss Devine ($5) in the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap.

The win also increased his lead in the metropolitan jockeys' title race to four over apprentice Luke Tarrant.

Byrne has had a stellar year and recently passed 1100 career wins in Brisbane metropolitan racing.

"Feels Like Home has a nice turn of pace and might win a better race," Byrne said.

Winning trainer Tony Gollan was hoping he had turned the winter carnival corner with Feels Like Home's win.

"It has been one of those carnivals for us as we have been around the money all the time without winning a Saturday race," he said.

"Feels Like Home raced well at the start of the carnival but she wasn't up to the top ones. We gave her a week on the water walker at Washpool Lodge and it was just what she needed."

Gollan is now on 72 winners for the metropolitan season and is six away from equalling Bruce McLachlan's long-standing Brisbane record.
