Zoomania chasing elusive black-type win

Friday 19 June 2015, 12:03pm

A 12-month plan could come to fruition when well-bred mare Zoomania tackles the Tattersall's Cup at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The $200,000 race represents one of the few remaining chances for the rising eight-year-old to earn black type before she heads to the breeding barn.

Zoomania was originally trained in Melbourne where she won four races for Peter Moody.

However, she failed to run a place in several attempts in stakes grade and connections decided to send her to Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan last year.

"She is a Zabeel mare and the owners obviously want black type to boost her value at stud," Gollan said.

Zoomania has won two metropolitan-class races for Gollan but his plans to get black type for her have been stymied.

"She won a race at Doomben last year and then got a virus so we had to spell her," Gollan said.

"This time in she has taken time to find her feet but she won very well at the Sunshine Coast last start.

"She didn't beat much but there was a lot to like about her effort."

Gollan said he had taken his time with Zoomania this campaign in an effort to get her out to distance races.

"On her breeding the 2400 metres should suit her very well," he said.

Zoomania will press on to the Grafton Cup on July 9 after Saturday's race.

Gollan is also looking at a Grafton race for sprinter Rocket To Glory after he runs in the Group Three Tattersall's Anniversary Handicap (1200m) on Saturday.

"At this stage we are looking at going on to the Ramornie at Grafton," he said.

"They usually have good dry tracks there and that will suit him."
