Nothing Flippant about Doomben Listed win

Saturday 6 June 2015, 12:40pm

Trainer Peter Snowden hopes it will be a dry spring in Sydney and Melbourne after impressive filly Flippant continued on her winning way at Doomben on Saturday.

Flippant was given the run of the race behind the pace by jockey Hugh Bowman before coming away to beat Harlem River ($5) by 1-1/4 lengths in the Listed Lancaster Stakes.

Backed from $1.70 to $1.60, Flippant posted her third win from five starts and her only defeats have been on wet tracks.

Snowden said Flippant would now be spelled and brought back for the spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne.

"She is a big filly but she has been immature," Snowden said.

"The key to her has been dry tracks and the addition of blinkers which we put on before she won her previous start at Scone."

Snowden said Flippant's exact spring campaign was still in the planning stage.

"I think she is a sprinting type and won't get her out too far. But you never know," he said.

Bowman said Flippant began well but he elected to take a sit when several runners wanted to press forward.

"It was then only a matter of getting a break at the top of the straight. She is a promising filly," Bowman said.

Tommy Berry said Harlem River had little luck after being trapped deep in the early stages.
