Trainer Desleigh Forster is convinced two-year-old Cylinder Beach has made the necessary improvement to win Saturday's Group One J J Atkins at Doomben.

Cylinder Beach has firmed from $35 to $13 with TAB Sportsbet following his third behind Look To The Stars in the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes two weeks ago when the youngster started a $101 chance.

"We tried him in blinkers after he came from a long way back to (finish) midfield in the Dalrello Stakes at Toowoomba. The transformation was almost instant," Forster said.

"He was a different horse and he has continued to improve."

Cylinder Beach has settled back in the field at his three career starts but Forster is hoping he can find a handier position on Saturday.

"He has an outside barrier again but there are only 12 horses in the Atkins and he should be able to get up midfield," she said.

"If he is near them on the turn he will give them something to think about in the final 100 metres."

Forster said Cylinder Beach had worked well this week and rated him a winning chance.

"He probably had to improve two lengths on his Sires' run to win the Atkins and I think he has done that," she said.

Forster is also looking longer-term with the youngster who she hopes can develop into a Caulfield Guineas contender during the Melbourne spring carnival.

Race jockey Robbie Fradd travelled from the Gold Coast to Brisbane to partner Cylinder Beach in a trackwork gallop on Tuesday morning and came away confident the horse could feature in the Group One race.

"As I said after the Sires', forget his price, the run was no fluke and he is a top horse in the making," Fradd said.

Forster regards the Peter Moody-trained Bassett as the horse to beat in the Atkins.

"There is a very big wrap on Moods' horse and I hope he isn't allowed an easy lead," she said.

Bassett is a $4.50 equal favourite with the Chris Waller-trained Press Statement.
