Rawiller suffers knee injury at Ballarat

Monday 1 June 2015, 6:39pm

Scans have shown jockey Brad Rawiller has a medial knee ligament injury, making an appeal against a careless riding suspension superfluous.

Rawiller planned to appeal the 12-meeting ban from Sunday's Ballarat meeting in the hope he could ride Master Of Arts in Saturday's Queensland Derby.

But the extent of the damage to his knee which he twisted in a pre-race mishap at the Ballarat meeting, confirmed he would not be able to ride this week.

"I have basically got a small tear in the medial ligament," Rawiller said.

The jockey will undergo treatment during the week and see his doctor again next Wednesday, hoping to be cleared to ride the following Saturday.

Rawiller says he is naturally disappointed to miss Derby as he is confident the Darren Weir-trained Master Of Arts is the horse to beat in the 2200m classic for three-year-olds.

"I will still be hoping for the team the horse can win the Derby," Rawiller said.

"He's in super form. That's just the way it goes."
