Persistence beats Resistance as More to It wins

Thursday 19 March 2015, 9:35am

Congratulations and the “BIG HEART” award definitely needs to be presented to the most loyal team of Dynamic Owners who love their mare MORE TO IT (5yo Bm More Than Ready / Sonny and Spur) when she faced the starter for just the 6th occasion on Monday at Bathurst in a Class 1 1300m event and led all the way to score a gutsy and determined victory, for rider Jeff Penza and trainer Gary Nickson at Warwick Farm.

What makes this so special is the story behind the win.

Early on in her career she was diagnosed with a stress fracture to her pelvis and tibia. She though recovered and came back into work before winning on debut by 3.3 lengths at Muswellbrook way back on the 8th July 2013.

After that start she was spelled and didn’t race again for almost 6 months when resuming on 23rd December 2013. In that run she sustained an injury when she strained a suspensory.

Most owners would have surrendered and thrown in the towel however loyalty knows no boundaries and to this team’s credit, they elected to give her time to recover and hopefully one final race preparation.

Incredibly after 412 days between runs she resumed recently running 3rd but hitting the line nicely from back in the ruck.

Her next two runs were only fair however considering the long-time off the racing scene, getting back to hard match fitness was always going to take time and be a challenge for extremely competent trainer and incredibly nice guy Gary Nicksonat Warwick Farm.

“Nicko” as Gary is affectionately known, has done a herculean feat in nursing this mare back to full health and to win another race.

Whilst it may have been just a Class 1 at Bathurst, to this ownership team, it was the equivalent of living the dream and winning a Group 1 or climbing Mt. Everest.

Today MORE TO IT won race 4 Bathurst RSL Club Class 1 Hcp over 1300m from Barrier 7 of 11 and was ridden by Jeff Penza.

The instructions were simple enough – go to the front and improve on your position. Jeff rode the mare accordingly and pulled off a courageous and thoroughly deserved win, holding off the challenges of the closing horses that had raced with cover and had the last sitting shot.

MORE TO IT scored by 0.4 lengths x 0.2 lengths defeating Martha Mary (Wanda Ings / Grant Buckley) and Full Revs (Jason Attard / Jay Ford).

It was a difficult race on paper and that’s how the race played out with prices seeing 5/1 equal favourites whilst MORE TO IT started at 8/1.

So a BIG THANK YOU goes to GARY NICKSON and JEFF PENZA for making one especially loyal and dedicated set of Dynamic Owners very happy with their result and justification that the wait was worthwhile.

Her career now reads 6 starts: 2 wins, 1 third and $22,850 Wins: 1000m (1), 1300m (1) however more importantly, as a broodmare prospect, today's win pops onto the catalogue pedigree page. So when she retires to stud she will be a worth more as a breeding prospect.

Well Done Team:

Dynamic Synd Racing (Mgr: D W Watt), D P Smith, M G Joyce, Ms J Daw, Ms P L Lepper, Mrs N Howard, R Geraghty, Mrs C A Read, N D Loader and Dynamic No 31 (Mgr: D W Watt).

This win by MORE TO IT brings up our 413th race win since October 2005 and win number 27 for this 2014/15 Racing Season.
