Apprentice Brodie Loy wins Group Two Ajax

Saturday 14 March 2015, 6:14pm

Burbero is the horse which has put apprentice Brodie Loy on the Sydney racing map and the pair have taken it to another level at Rosehill.

A late entry in Saturday's Group Two Ajax Stakes (1500m), Burbero ($8) wore away at Ninth Legion ($6.50) to beat him by a half head to give Loy his biggest win.

The 20-year-old is indentured to David Pfieffer whose Warwick Farm neighbour Bjorn Baker trains the consistent Burbero.

Baker kept faith with Loy who has developed a solid partnership with Burbero and has ridden him to four wins and four seconds at his past eight starts.

"Brodie is a part if Burbero now," Baker said.

"He does a lot of work on him at Warwick Farm and these young ones have to be given the chance in big races."

Loy grabbed the chance with both hands to score the win of his short lifetime on a horse he trusts to do the job.

"It's absolutely unbelievable. It's a dream come true," he said.

"I ride him confidently and I believe in him.

"You just have to let him be where he wants to be. I got on to Ninth Legion's back and he towed me into the race.

"My horse has the best turn of foot and I knew when he put himself in the race at the 600 metres he would go on with it."

Loy began his career two years ago in Albury but had an unsettled start to his apprenticeship.

"I've had heaps of bosses but I'm really happy where I am now," he said.

"Everything is falling into place."

Ajax Stakes favourite Rudy ($4) ran eighth with his rider Luke Tarrant saying he had little luck.
