Moloney aiming for the Sky in G1 Newmarket

Thursday 12 March 2015, 1:46pm

Apprentice Patrick Moloney has been rewarded for a winning streak with a Newmarket Handicap ride.

Moloney rides $61 outsider Lord Of The Sky and is the only apprentice with a mount in the Group One sprint at Flemington on Saturday.

"It's a fantastic opportunity to be riding against jockeys like Hugh Bowman, Craig Williams, Dwayne Dunn and Craig Newitt," Moloney said.

"And to be riding against an international superstar like Joao Moreira is going to be a big thrill."

The Newmarket will be Moloney's third Group One ride and his second in a few weeks, a reward for a patch of form that includes a Moonee Valley treble this week.

"Hopefully I can keep riding in good form and give my horse every opportunity to be competitive in a high-pressure race," he said.

Moloney has ridden Lord Of The Sky to a Caulfield win.
