Racing Victoria adds to media portfolio

Friday 27 February 2015, 5:05pm

Racing Victoria has bought publications Best Bets and Winning Post from embattled broadcaster TVN.

The two titles were purchased for $8.6 million following the disaggregation of the TVN business which was owned by the Australian Turf Club, Country Racing Victoria, Melbourne Racing Club, Moonee Valley Racing Club and the Victoria Racing Club.

As TVN closes on March 14, Best Bets and Winning Post will be published by Racing Victoria from March 16.

Racing Victoria chief executive Bernard Saundry said the acquisition complemented its digital network racing.com, the broadcast production company TRP and industry radio station RSN.

"Their acquisition furthers our goal of an integrated media business that can continue to take racing to a wider audience and help us grow the next generation of fans," Saundry said.

Saundry said an audit showed both titles had posted strong profits over the past three financial years with a forecast for further growth.

Best Bets and Winning Post were sold to TVN in 2007 for $12 million.
