Miss Gidget shooting for Blue Diamond spot

There is no better jockey than Dwayne Dunn to offer an opinion of a two-year-old leading into the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Dunn has four victories in Melbourne's premier two-year-old race and on Saturday will give trainers Colin and Cindy Alderson his assessment of Miss Gidget in the lead-up to the Group One race over 1200m on February 28.

Miss Gidget is one of 14 fillies contesting the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

The daughter of Gonski has had two starts and will be first-up since late November when she lines up on Saturday.

Narrowly beaten on debut by Thurlow over 1000m at Sandown on November 15, Miss Gidget finished fourth to Bantam over 1000m at Moonee Valley a fortnight later.

While the Thurlow form looks good on paper with that filly scoring again at Sandown last Saturday, Cindy Alderson is not getting too carried away.

"As much as Thurlow's form stacks up, she's tradesman like and not brilliant and we're going to meet some more brilliant fillies on Saturday," Alderson said.

Miss Gidget gave the stable some confidence with a solid performance in a trial for locally prepared gallopers at Cranbourne last week.

And Alderson believes the filly has improved from her last preparation.

"We're really happy with her at the moment," Alderson said.

"She seems to have improved, which she has to do.

"Her unofficial trial at Cranbourne the other day was strong and we're hopeful she steps out on Saturday in what will be a stronger race than what she's been in before and shows that she's up to it."

Miss Gidget has to perform well on Saturday to warrant going on to the Blue Diamond.

"It'll be her first run back and you would expect a little bit of improvement to come from the race as well, but it will give us an idea of where we fit," Alderson said.
