Bottle Of Smoke maintains unbeaten record

Wednesday 11 February 2015, 5:48pm

A Mornington victory at a midweek meeting may not be the stepping stone to black-type company but trainer Mick Price believes Bottle Of Smoke could be up to it.

Having her first run back following a spell, Bottle Of Smoke scored a two-length victory under Damien Oliver in the Bayside Suzuki Handicap.

It was the daughter of Northern Meteor's second career start having been successful on debut in an Echuca maiden last September.

Bottle Of Smoke tracked wide during the race before gaining the lead soon after straightening and then racing clear for the comfortable victory.

"Mornington is always a tough 1200 metres up the hill," Price said.

"I think she is a filly to follow over 1400 metres, a mile and she might even get up to 2000 metres.

"She's problem-free, has got a good set of lungs, a good attitude and is really promising."

Oliver said he was comfortable covering ground on the filly from her awkward draw.

"She's a flowing, big striding filly," Oliver said.

"I didn't want to get her rhythm interrupted and you can do that here at Mornington."
