Trainer Noel Doyle's long-range plans for classy three-year-old Aimee were thrown into confusion when she drew an outside barrier for her comeback at Doomben on Saturday.
Doyle had hoped to use the Garrard's Horse and Hound Handicap (1200m) as a guide to whether Aimee would head to Sydney for the autumn carnival or to tackle Brisbane open-company races.
He booked apprentice Matt McGuren to reduce Aimee's weight from 59kg to 57kg which would have placed her nicely in the field.
"She has to start her campaign somewhere so I suppose we might as well run here," Doyle said.
"But now we have to contend with barrier 16 as well. I should be used to it by now I have never known a horse draw outside barriers so often as she has in the past 18 months."
Aimee has won five of her eight starts in Queensland including the Listed Ken Russell Stakes as a two-year-old.
However, she failed to fire in two starts in Melbourne during the spring carnival.
"I am sure she didn't handle Caulfield and the Melbourne way of going. She just wasn't herself the whole trip," Doyle said.
"Then again, she isn't the only horse not to handle Caulfield at their first few tries."
Aimee is raced by the Kling family who breed from their own mares and a trip to Sydney chasing black type would be an obvious option for her.
"There are some nice three-year-old fillies races for her in Sydney but there isn't much use going to Sydney if she isn't at her best," Doyle said.
"We can stay here and put her in open company where she will be down in the weights. She is just about weighted out of three-year-old races here," Doyle said.
