It's a long way from a Terang maiden win to a Derby but young Mornington trainer Paul Rocke is daring to dream.
Everyone's Talking scored a comfortable debut victory at Terang last Monday and Rocke is looking to the gelding to play a role in the upcoming Classics.
He hopes to get Everyone's Talking to Sydney for the Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on April 5 and has also nominated the South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville on May 9 and the Queensland Derby (2200m) at Doomben on June 6 as possibilities for the three-year-old.
"He's by Sir Percy and we're setting him for the Derbys," Rocke said.
"He'll be entered for the Sydney Derby and the Adelaide Derby and he may even have a let-up somewhere and head up to Queensland for their Derby as well.
"We'll just see how he's going at the time."
Rocke said Everyone's Talking would run over 1600m in the next couple of weeks before tackling the Group Two Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield on February 28.
"I'm not sure where I'll run him next but I've picked out the Autumn Classic over 1800 metres on Blue Diamond day as a short-term target for him to see where he is at," Rocke said.
Everyone's Talking is a New Zealand bred gelding by 2006 Epsom Derby winner Sir Percy from the Kaapstad mare Fuar.
Sir Percy shuttled to Rich Hill Stud for three years from 2009 but since the success of his first northern hemisphere crops has remained in England.
Ridden by Irish jockey Alan Creighton at Terang, Everyone's Talking was off the speed early before getting into clear running soon after straightening and sprinting clear for an impressive win.
Everyone's Talking cost $27,000 at the Karaka select yearling sale two years ago.
