Double for Dunn and a few lamb chops

Monday 26 January 2015, 4:40pm

After breaking a winning drought with a double at Sandown, jockey Dwayne Dunn was heading home to enjoy Australia Day.

"I'm going to clock off now and get on the drink and have a few lamb chops," Dunn said after guiding Reparations to a narrow victory in the John Dillon Stakes (1400m) on Monday.

Dunn's double at Sandown, having scored earlier aboard Shamal Wind in the W.J. Adams Stakes, broke a run of outs in the metropolitan area stretching back to November 19.

Dunn said it was his intention to ride Reparations a little further back than fourth spot but after jumping so well he elected to make full use of the position.

"When he began like he did and I saw that option, I shoved him in there," Dunn said.

Co-trainer Anthony Freedman, who trains Reparation in partnership with his brother Lee, said the gelding may now be aimed at the Group One Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on March 14.

He said despite the six-year-old carrying 60kg to victory, he doesn't believe the gelding to be a weight-for-age horse, almost ruling out a start in the 1400m C.F. Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes, both over 1400m at Caulfield next month.

"He's a genuine Group Three horse," Freedman said.

"We had a go at a Group One in the Stradbroke before and I think he's clearly a better horse now than what he was back then.

"We might throw him into the Newmarket and down in the weights he might be a chance in Group One.

"He's gone well up the straight before and it might be an option."
