Magic Millions winning duo combine again

Wednesday 14 January 2015, 5:27pm

The successful Magic Millions Classic team of trainer Darryl Hansen and apprentice jockey Luke Tarrant has continued its winning run, this time with a veteran at Ipswich.

Hansen has been great form winning six races in the past three weeks with Le Chef's victory in the $2 million Classic for two-year-olds the icing on the cake.

Tarrant has been in equally good form and leads the Brisbane jockeys premiership.

On Wednesday the pair combined to win the Corana Hcp (1350m) with nine-year-old Astatus ($4), a top class juvenile when trained by Mick Mair in the 2007-08 season.

Due to various setbacks he did not start for 1942 days after he ran last in the 2008 Queensland Sires Produce at Eagle Farm.

Astatus resumed racing with Hansen in 2013 and has now won a further two races.

"He had about five years off before I got him so I always enjoy getting a win with him. We will try and find something else around the provincials for him," Hansen said.

Hansen said Le Chef was now in the spelling paddock and would probably be back for the Brisbane winter carnival.
