The Tasmanian Cups have all but been ruled out for Bagot Handicap winner Averau with the Adelaide Cup the race now in connections' sights.
Averau scored a dominant 3-1/2 length win in the Listed Bagot (2800m) at Flemington on New Year's Day and the Hobart and Launceston Cups in February were touted as potential targets.
However, Craig Widdison, who trains in partnership with Peter Morgan, said the Adelaide Cup was the race they would now target with the mare on March 9.
The Group Two Adelaide Cup is over 3200m.
"I think she will get it," Widdison said.
"As long as they don't get any rain over there, it's probably a nice race for her."
Widdison said Averau had come through the Bagot Handicap really well and was having a bit of a freshen-up.
"She hasn't left a crumb," Widdison said.
"It would be nice if the Adelaide Cup was in two to three weeks.
"She won't go to the paddock, she just goes out (in a paddock) during the day and she's happy doing that."
Widdison said a program had not yet been locked in but her Adelaide Cup lead-up was likely to include a Listed 2500m race at Moonee Valley on February 20.
