Unless a reason emerges to suggest otherwise, Joe Pride will take Sense Of Occasion back to the races seven days after the disappointment of his Rosehill failure.

The four-year-old will run in the Metro Plate (1600m) at Randwick with his trainer at a loss to explain his 10th behind Centre Pivot at Rosehill on Saturday.

"Early indications are he is fine. It is a mystery," Pride said.

"Maybe it was the second-up syndrome. He's too good a horse to have run that badly.

"I'm not hitting the panic button and I'll take him back to the races quickly. I've done it before with horses and it has worked.

"The vet has gone over him and found nothing wrong."

Sense Of Occasion was among the group of horses to go to Pride following the death of his Warwick Farm neighbour Guy Walter in May last year.

The winner of two races for Walter and one for Walter's wife Wendy, Sense Of Occasion had his first start for Pride on December 20, running eighth behind Haussman beaten just 2-3/4 lengths.

Sense of Occasion was one of nine entries for Saturday's set weights and penalties event with just five nominations taken on Monday for the 1400m benchmark 95 including Melbourne three-year-old Boomwaa who was also entered for three races at Flemington.

While perplexed by Sense Of Occasion's run, Pride's expectations of Craftiness were fulfilled at Rosehill where the ex-Walter gelding racked up his third metropolitan win.

"Craftiness has gone to the paddock for a short break and he will come back and be aimed at some better races at the end of the autumn and into the winter," Pride said.

Stablemate Earnest Ernest is entered for the 1000m sprint at Randwick but is more likely to take on his stablemate Ball Of Muscle in the Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford a day earlier.
