Gold Seventy Seven keeps unbeaten record

Saturday 3 January 2015, 3:39pm

Rosehill winner Gold Seventy Seven looks set to step up to stakes level in the autumn with a 100 per cent winning record.

The three-year-old colt passed his biggest test when he scooped his third win from as many starts at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trainer Kris Lees says he thinks he will gain a lot from his triumph in the Cellarbrations Handicap (1400m).

Gold Seventy Seven, who was the $1.50 favourite to win the second race of the day, managed to gain ground after crossing the 800m mark in fourth place, beating Better Not Blue ($20) and Conarchie ($61).

"I was pretty impressed with him," Lees said.

"We'll have a little break now and soon we'll be back into the autumn.

"We'll let the dust settle but I thought a race like the Royal Sovereign on the last day of the carnival."

The Group Two Royal Sovereign Stakes (1400m) is for three-year-old colts and geldings at the end of Sydney's autumn carnival.

Lees said the chestnut was still immature.

"He's still got a bit to learn but I think he'll take a lot of benefit out of today.

"It was a hot day and he felt it."

"We'll have a little break now and we'll see a better horse next time."
