Chris Waller has begun the new year in the same fashion he finished the last with yet another feature-race win.

Multilateral claimed Thursday's Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) at Randwick to give Sydney's premier trainer a clean sweep of the summer staying races after Saigon Tea won the Christmas Cup and I'm Imposing the Summer Cup.

Although he ended 2014 as Australia's leading Group One trainer, Waller said horses like the imported Multilateral were important to the stable.

"It's important to get these horses to win races. He has won eight now and that's important for the owners," Waller said.

"It's the key to the recipe.

"Once these horses find their levels in Australia they can win good races as long as they stay sound and happy."

Multilateral and Plutorius were sent out the $3.80 equal favourites and ran different races.

Plutorius led which was not jockey Brenton Avdulla's original intention, while Glyn Schofield had Multilateral second last of the six runners.

The effort told on Plutorius and he weakened out of proceedings while Multilateral was poised to pounce which he did.

He raced to the front and held off Ghost Protocol by a length with Lucky Lucky Lucky another half length third.

"He can be hard work and all credit to Glyn, he got him to settle," Waller said.

The trainer said Multilateral could be a runner in next week's Gosford Cup (2100m).

"We could push on to that race," he said.

"It would not be much trouble to keep him fresh and get him ready to back up in another eight days."

Schofield rode through the pain barrier after injuring his heel when he was tossed from Slydini in the mounting yard earlier in the day.

He called for the doctor again after riding Rock Temple to second behind Bold Circle in the race after the Tatts Cup and was stood down from his remaining rides.

Bold Circle's win has him firmly on target for the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas on Saturday week.

"He has always had a lot of talent but has had some knee problems which we have to manage," trainer David Payne said.

"But it's all systems go now to the Gold Coast."
