In-form sprinter Craftiness will be spelled after his next start at Rosehill but not because he needs a rest.

Far from thinking the gelding is coming to the end of his preparation, trainer Joe Pride is planning ahead to the winter and some of the big races in Brisbane.

The winner of four of his five starts, Craftiness goes for a hat-trick in the Tab.com.au (1000m) at Rosehill.

"He is in great order and I would expect him to perform as well as he did last start," Pride said.

"He doesn't have to do too much more than he did then to win again.

"I will send him to the paddock in good order after Saturday. It's a matter of timing because I want to get him back for a winter campaign.

"There is a lot more to come from him."

The gelding was formerly with the late Guy Walter who prepared him for a debut maiden win at Hawkesbury shortly before his death in May.

Under Walter's widow Wendy, Craftiness won again at Hawkesbury before being transferred to Pride who took over the Walters' main stable block and many of the horses.

He ran second at his first start for Pride, beaten by the Chris Waller-trained Religify who, like Craftiness, has gone on to win his next two starts.

Another of Pride's seemingly endless team of good sprinters, Ball Of Muscle will run in the Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford next week.

The beaten favourite in Saturday's Canterbury Classic has come through his second to Barbed without a moment's concern for his trainer.

"That was his first try at stakes level and he handled it well," Pride said.

"He has handled Gosford before so there are no worries on that score."

Expectations for the gelding are heightened by the deeds of his brothers, Group one-winning sprinters Tiger Tees and Terravista who are also both in the Pride stable.
