If determination counts for anything, lightly raced filly Jurasound will go a long way.

Jurasound resumed from a spell with an amazing win at Yarra Valley and on Saturday lines up in the VOBIS Gold Carat (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

It may have only been a maiden victory at Yarra Valley but it was her determination to take a narrow opening that really stood out.

Locked away on the rail behind the leaders, jockey Michael Walker found a narrow gap on the fence for the filly to squeeze through.

Just as she was getting through, the gap closed and the filly bounced off the rail, then balanced up and got up on the line to score a narrow win.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said Jurasound had always shown ability.

"Last preparation she never ran badly," Dabernig said.

"At the end of her preparation she had a minor soft-tissue injury to a shoulder.

"We spelled her and she's come in bigger and stronger.

"When she won first-up she showed really good endeavour to hold that gap as a lot of horses would have chucked it in.

"I'm sure she'll run well, it's just whether she's up to the class, but it would be great to get some of that prize money."

The race restricted to VOBIS Gold qualified horses has prize money of $150,000 on offer with a first prize of $90,000 and attached is a $23,000 for Super VOBIS qualified horses.

The rich nature of the race has brought together a strong field including Tudor, Rough Justice, Profit Share, Fast Cash and Tan Tat Sun.

The strength of the field hasn't been lost on Dabernig who said Saturday's race would determine whether they press ahead with Jurasound.

"She's only second-up and we can always come back in class, but we think she's a city-class horse, especially at this time of the year," Dabernig said.

"In a race like this there are a few horses that have the score on the board, so we'll get a guide as to where she sits."
