Much-maligned sprinter Lord Of The Sky is in the peak of condition ahead of his run at Flemington.
And trainer Robbie Laing believes the four-year-old is ready to bounce back to winning form in the Standish Handicap (1200m) on Thursday.
Lord Of The Sky, the $4 second favourite behind Reparations, has had two runs back from a spell carrying big weights and drops to 57.5kg.
After finishing a first-up fourth in the Christmas Cup (1000m) at Sandown on December 6 he ran second to Tried And Tired in the Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Sandown last Friday.
Noel Callow, who has the Standish ride, allowed Lord Of The Sky to take the sit behind the speed at Sandown and Laing said the entire peaked on his run in the closing stages.
"He's jumping out of his skin," Laing said.
"He's come through the run really good."
Laing said when Lord Of The Sky burst onto the scene just on 12 months ago with two impressive Caulfield wins he was a three-year-old getting significant weight relief.
And while Laing believes he's shown improvement into his four-year-old year he doesn't believe he's made the improvement to carry the weight he's now asked to carry.
"It's not rocket science with him not winning as regularly as he did," Laing said.
"He was winning as a three-year-old against older sprinters, always on the minimum and always with a claim.
"For him coping with coming off the minimum and now carrying 59 and 60 he had to improve five or six lengths and he simply hasn't, he's only improved a length or two.
"He's still a good galloper and hopefully with more strength he'll adjust to carrying the bigger weights."
Laing said Lord Of The Sky added a new string to his bow by taking a sit behind the speed at Sandown and believes the way Flemington straight races are now run should suit him.
"They take it easy for the first part of the race and then ran their last half-mile in 44 (seconds)," Laing said.
"He's fit and up for the challenge."
