Irish apprentice Oisin Murphy made his mark at the Flemington New Year's Day meeting 12 months ago and Kieran Shoemark gets a chance to do the same on Thursday.
The English apprentice is on loan to Danny O'Brien, the same same trainer who took on Murphy, for a summer stint.
Murphy enjoyed a successful summer in Melbourne, riding 13 winners from 89 rides.
His wins included six at metropolitan level with the highlight his Listed victory in the Bagot Handicap on the Nigel Blackiston-trained Outback Joe.
Murphy will join Qatar Racing as the No.2 rider in the new year after capping 2014 as the champion British apprentice.
O'Brien was happy to take 18-year-old Shoemark on this summer and the apprentice got off the mark with a winning treble at Geelong last week.
The Flemington trainer has booked Shoemark to ride two-year-old Stella Di Notte in Thursday's New Year Plate while the apprentice has also been booked to ride the Mark Kavanagh-trained Kingdom Of Dreams and the Glenn Thornton-trained Mister Moneypenny.
"He stepped out and rode three winners for us on Boxing Day at Geelong and we were very pleased with the way he rode," O'Brien said.
"Hopefully he'll get some bigger and better opportunities over the next month or so.
"He's a very accomplished young rider and he's a bit similar to Oisin Murphy.
"He's at the right stage of his development to come out here and see something different, and at the moment he's making every post a winner."
Like Murphy was, Shoemark is indentured to English trainer Andrew Balding.
O'Brien said Balding contacted him and asked if he would like to take Shoemark on for a couple of months.
"Obviously we were very pleased with how things panned out for us last summer with Oisin so we were happy enough to take Kieran on this summer," O'Brien said.
"He'll head back to the UK when their flat season kicks off in February."
Shoemark made his Australian debut at Yarra Valley on December 19 and his only city ride in Melbourne was a second at Moonee Valley on Grand Orator later that night.
