Collett on the Ball to replace Schofield

Thursday 18 December 2014, 1:59pm

Jason Collett has been confirmed as the new rider for Ball Of Muscle in the Canterbury Classic following a suspension to regular jockey Glyn Schofield.

Schofield was outed for four meetings for careless riding at Canterbury on Wednesday and will miss the December 27 meeting featuring the Listed sprint.

Trainer Joe Pride moved quickly to secure Collet given only a handful of jockeys can ride at the 54kg minimum - especially two days after Christmas.

"Jason has ridden well for the connections before, he's ridden Terravista to a few wins so hopefully he can do the same on his little brother," Pride said.

"It's definitely testing the water with him but he's won six, I've got to find out where he sits in the ranks at the moment."

Ball Of Muscle took his record to six wins from eight starts when he showed sustained speed to lead throughout over 1000m at Randwick last Saturday.

The Canterbury Classic will be his first test at stakes level.
