Scarlett Billows gives Weir 100 for season

Wednesday 17 December 2014, 5:46pm

Michelle Payne has ridden a winner at Mornington to bring up a milestone for trainer Darren Weir and she is hoping for another victory when she fronts the Racing Appeals Board.

Payne rode at Wednesday's Mornington meeting on a stay of proceedings after being suspended for careless riding at Flemington last Saturday aboard Profit Share.

Her appeal against the eight-meeting ban will be heard on Friday.

Payne guided the Weir-trained Scarlet Billows to a first-up victory at Mornington which brought up the trainer's 100th win for the season Australia-wide.

Victoria's premier trainer amassed a personal best of 253 winners last season.

"Things are going great," Weir said.

"We've got some good owners supporting us and a lot of great staff at home."

Payne said things panned out well in the run and Scarlet Billows attacked the line to win by three-quarters of a length in the Community Real Estate Handicap (1200m).

She is booked to ride two horses at Moonee Valley on Friday night and one at Flemington on Saturday, pending the outcome of her appeal.
