Audino chasing fourth-straight win

Wednesday 17 December 2014, 4:52pm

Robbie Laing is preparing to back up the in-form Audino for the fourth straight week convinced he can win again.

The bargain buy has won his past three starts at Cranbourne, Sandown and Flemington and after seeing how well the horse has come through his latest victory, Laing has put him in Saturday's Chanteclair Handicap (1420m) at Flemington.

Audino won over 1600 metres last Saturday and Laing said the gelding, who cost $2500, had had an easy week since.

"I think I will run him. He's super again," Laing said.

"He has done bugger-all this week because he's coming back to 1400 metres, so he's had an even lighter week.

"He's drawn beautifully and with the claim he's going to carry a kilo below the minimum."

Three kilogram claiming apprentice Jordan Childs has the ride and Audino has drawn barrier two in the field of 11.

"I'll get a blood count done on him on Friday, but apart from that he seems fine to me," Laing said.

"I think he'll win."

Laing also has Beneficiary in the race but said he was more likely to run at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Audino opened at $4 on Wednesday but has drifted to $4.80 with The New Boy at $5 and She's Clean and Stereosonic at $5.50.

Stakes winner Boomwaa has only won one of his 12 career starts but Laing believes he can run a bold race second-up in Saturday's in the Fiesta Star Handicap (1200m).

"He's jumping out of his skin and he goes well up the straight," Laing said of last year's Maribyrnong Plate winner.

Boomwaa finished a close fourth first-up at Sandown on December 6 over 1000m and Laing thought the horse battled on bravely on what he described as the "no-go zone" on the inside section in the straight.

"He's ready to run a bottler," he said.
