Randwick's woes continue with races moved

Saturday 29 November 2014, 2:15pm

Plans to transfer a meeting from the beleaguered Kensington track to the Randwick course proper have been shelved.

Next Saturday's races will be held at Rosehill with the decision made to save the main track at Randwick for the following week's Villiers Stakes meeting.

Friday's meeting was held at Warwick Farm after problems again surfaced with the inside Kensington track.

The transfers have come at a considerable cost to the Australian Turf Club which had many Christmas functions booked but chief executive Darren Pearce said the track was the priority.

"Clients who have booked for next Saturday will have the option to come to Rosehill," Pearce said.

"We had a meeting on the course proper on November 8 which was transferred from the Kensington track.

"We raced with the rail out nine metres because renovation work had been carried out on the inside.

"Work was then carried out on the outside nine metres but it hasn't caught up enough for us to hold the meeting on it.

"We can't compound the problem and we are better off waiting an extra week."

Pearce said most of the bookings on Friday had been cancelled but the cost had yet to be counted.
