Gordon Lord Byron pencilled in for York

Thursday 14 August 2014, 9:23am

Globetrotting sprinter Gordon Lord Byron is on track to reappear in the City of York Stakes on Friday week.

His Irish trainer Tom Hogan is using the Listed contest over seven furlongs (1400m), which his stable star claimed in 2012, as a stepping stone in an attempt to win next month's Haydock Sprint Cup for the second year running.

Gordon Lord Byron travelled to Australia earlier this year to win the Group One George Ryder Stakes.

Hogan was greatly encouraged by Gordon Lord Byron's racecourse gallop after the race meeting at the Curragh on Sunday.

"He is in wonderful form and his work was very exciting," Hogan said.

"The City of York Stakes at York on Friday week is his initial target and then the Haydock Sprint.

Gordon Lord Byron has not been to the races since finishing eighth in the Diamond Jubilee won by Slade Power at Royal Ascot.
