Regan Bayliss building momentum in town

Saturday 9 August 2014, 2:03pm

Apprentice Regan Bayliss has earned praise from leading trainer Peter Moody after continuing his promising start to his city riding career at Flemington.

Bayliss celebrated victory with his first ride at Flemington in an apprentices' only race on July 19 and kept his perfect record at the track in tact with a win on Kenjorwood in his only ride on Saturday.

The 17-year-old, who is apprenticed to Moody, has also ridden a city winner at Caulfield and Sandown in the past few weeks.

"He's certainly a very bright young talent," Moody said.

"He seems very level headed and he's getting the job done at this point in time.

"Hopefully he keeps a level head and keeps developing as a rider and the sky is the limit."

Kenjorwood ($7) settled behind Madam Nash who led by several lengths before coming back to the field approaching the home turn.

Bayliss hit the front on Kenjorwood early in the straight and then asked him to go inside the final 300m after Count Encosta ($3) challenged.

Five-year-old Kenjorwood, who carried 51kg after the 3kg claim of Bayliss, scored by two lengths over Count Encosta with six lengths to favourite Eclair Samba ($2.80) third.

"I couldn't ask for a better start in the city," Bayliss said.

"Hopefully I can just keep the ball rolling."
