QRIC apologises on prize money release

Thursday 12 July 2018, 5:07pm

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission has apologised for incorrect information it released about withholding Weetwood Handicap day prize money payments to some horses trained by Ben Currie.

Commissioner Ross Barnett said on Wednesday prize money from April 7 had not been released to the connections of Hang and Givus a Cuddle who were among the horses subject to an ongoing stewards' inquiry.

"After further clarification was sought and received from Racing Queensland we can now clarify that while the connections have received their prize money, the 10 per cent trainer's share due to Ben Currie remains withheld until the current inquiry is completed," Barnett said.

"I apologise for the inaccuracy of the information contained in yesterday's release," Barnett said.

Currie is to face 28 charges at a resumed inquiry on August 13 after three other charges were withdrawn.
