Mallyon and Charmed Harmony combine again

Saturday 18 July 2015, 4:49pm

Tom Sadler will have a tough job getting back aboard Charmed Harmony after fellow apprentice Katelyn Mallyon scored an all-the-way win on the gelding at Flemington.

Working over from a wide draw in the Bruce Gadsden Handicap (1400m), Mallyon was able to find the fence before raising the tempo on the home turn.

Sent out the $2.45 favourite, Charmed Harmony kept going strongly to the line in scoring by 2-3/4 lengths from Pago Rock ($11) with Vizhaka ($61) 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Mallyon has now had four rides on the rising six-year-old registering three wins and a half-head second on the gelding.

"I wish they were all like that," Mallyon said.

"He jumps to the front and travels and is really strong.

"He can sustain a speed and break their hearts from the 600 (metres) to the 400 and that's where he wins his races."

Sadler, deputising for his trainer father John, was quick to point out that he has also been successful aboard Charmed Harmony on two occasions.

"Don't worry, I've got a little plan. She might fall down the stairs later in the day," Sadler joked.

He said the slow five rated track was perfect ground for the gelding as it suited his front-running style.

"He ran here last year and it was really firm and that ruined him for the rest of the prep," Sadler said.

"We need to look after him as he does a good job by the stable and we try and do a good job by him."
