Emma Ljung escapes serious injury in fall

Sunday 28 June 2015, 10:46am

Queensland apprentice Emma Ljung has escaped serious injury in a fall at Toowoomba with her master saying the plastic running rail prevented a more dire outcome.

Ljung celebrated her biggest moment on Saturday afternoon when she rode her first city winner on Tukiyo at Doomben.

She then travelled to the night meeting at Toowoomba where her mount Polly Parrot went through the fence at the 600m-mark.

Ljung was taken to the Toowoomba Hospital and stayed in overnight before going home on Sunday.

Her master John Dann said Ljung had a cracked collar bone and muscle and ligament soreness.

"They kept her in overnight but she appears to have escaped really serious injury," Dann said.

"It is another example of how important the plastic rail is these days. Had it been the old wooden rail she would have been in real trouble.

"She was on the phone this morning and keen to get back to riding as soon as possible. Emma is a future star and this is just one of those things."
