Undrafted to miss July Cup

Wednesday 24 June 2015, 7:08am

Undrafted will not be among Australian Brazen Beau's rivals in the July Cup.

The American horse surged late to deny Brazen Beau victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Trainer Wesley Ward believes Undrafted needs more time between races and the Haydock Sprint on September 5 is a more suitable target than the Cup on July 11.

"The July Cup is out," Ward said.

"I just thought Ascot was such a high and he put in a real gut-wrenching effort that I wanted to get him home and give him some time.

"The race we are really looking at now is the Sprint Cup.

"Haydock is a flat track and that will suit him."

Brazen Beau is the dominant favourite for the July Cup ahead of Mustajeeb who ran fifth in the Diamond Jubilee.
