Wicked Intent sets course for 2YO Millions

Saturday 29 November 2014, 3:04pm

Champion jockey Chris Munce labelled Wicked Intent a genuine Magic Millions contender after his runaway win at Doomben on Saturday.

Wicked Intent ($3.30) led from the outset to crush his rivals, winning by 4-1/2 lengths from Mishani Honcho ($4.80) with Mishani Di Caprio ($8.00) a neck away third.

Munce is well qualified to identify a Magic Millions prospect, having won the race three times aboard Sunblazer (1989), Excellerator (2001) and Dance Hero (2004).

He didn't hesitate when asked to compare Wicked Intent with his previous Millions winners.

"Don't worry, he's right up with those horses," he said.

"He's improved a helluva lot since he won his first start at the Gold Coast and he's a lovely mover and very strong.

"Even though he's not very big he's got a massive stride on him."

Munce is sitting pretty as far as Magic Millions options go after riding Pepperano to a stylish win on November 22 when she lowered the boom on Frequendly, who ran an odds-on favourite.

Trainer Barry Mitchell, the father-in-law of Munce, is undecided what races to target with Wicked Intent before the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 10.

"There's the Phelan Ready over 1050 metres here in a fortnight or the McLachlan at the end of next month if we want to try him at 1200 metres before the Millions," he said.

Meet George Jetson, the $3.10 favourite, was slow to jump and laboured in the straight to finish fourth.
