Sunshine Coast Racing Lodge

Sunshine Coast Racing Lodge

David and Kristie Peoples established Sunshine Coast Racing Lodge in 2005 and started operating from Christmas Eve that year.  Originally from Longreach, David decided to pursue a Metropolitan Training Career without the hustle of the city lifestyle.  It was during a game of golf with ex Longreach shearer and Australasian Champion - Bruce Deegan, that the concept of Sunshine Coast Racing Lodge was born.  Bruce owns Caloundra City Realty and knew where there was a good “scrubby block” that could be transformed into a private training complex.  So the work began….and continues.

The property is a stones throw from Sunshine Coast Turf Club (Corbould Park), Caloundra (home of the newly built CUSHION TRACK) and approximately 50 minutes from Eagle Farm and Doomben.  The location suits the family lifestyle with their boys – Louis (13) and Oliver (8) loving the best of both worlds - the beach and the rural aspect.

The horses love it too; they go out into day yards and paddocks daily after work and come into the barn at night, we simply treat them like “horses”.

Facilities

Our facilities include 10 day yards, 30 paddocks, 20 horse barn, Opera House Barn (overlooking dam) houses 8 and an another newly built barn which houses 12.  In 2008 we are building an Olympic size arena to work our breakers in and any other horse that requires it during pre-training or re-educating.

We have a pool which was constructed from the original dam and a 6 horse walker which has currently been sprayed with Armour Linings all purpose rubber.

We do all of our slow work on our 1000m sand track which has excellent drainage and the ability to work Melbourne way.

Education of our babies includes barrier work from our 2 horse barriers – which has a 400m run on a slight incline.
