This son of BERNARDINI showed a HUGE amount of talent as a 2yo, putting his opposition away in impressive style in both his first and second starts in SATURDAY METRO GRADE!


His trainer Leon MacDonald ranked him as one of his best ever 2 years olds he's Trained and had extremely high hopes for his future.


After his 3rd start (1st start as a 3yo) he was beaten 2 lengths, again in Saturday Metro Class which was below expectation. He underwent a tieback operation and then came out and won his next start in SATURDAY METRO CLASS putting pay to undefeated galloper Alcobro.


He then contested the Redelva Stakes and was a bit slow from the gates and was pulled back to take a sit on the rail. He copped a huge check where he knuckled down before gathering momentum and was justifiably flat hitting the line although he did work through horses. He then raced in the H C Nitschke over 1400m and the William Hill (Gr2) over 1200m on soft tracks (which I doubt suits him) where he sat off the speed and didn't look to try down the straight.


His best performance this prep was over 1400m (Saturday Metropolitan grade) where he showed he hasn't lost his will to win! He went down in a head bobber when he was pushed forward after the start to sit outside the leader where he fought hard all the way down the straight where it looked like he got the bob.


After reviewing his starts I believe he has plenty to offer as a quality racing proposition.


It's clear he has his own ideas on racing. For mine he is a horse that needs to be close to the speed, who has shown repeatedly that he enjoys a fight providing he is already in the battle coming into the straight.


Although his half sister is the talented Beluga Blue, winner of the 1800m Hill Smith and 2nd placegetter in the 2000m Wakeful Stakes (Gr2), I think Burgundy Blast's strength is as a sprinter. If he was kept fresh and dropped back in distance, I believe you would see his class shine through again.
