Happier Let's Make Adeal starts Cup bid

Life in Sydney was not for Let's Make Adeal but her trainer Nigel Blackiston has the mare ready to start a Melbourne Cup campaign in Saturday's Group Two PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield.

Let's A Make Adeal promised plenty with her effort in the Group One Australian Cup in the autumn but struggled in three Sydney outings, including a well-beaten effort in the Sydney Cup in April.

"She never settled in Sydney, I don't know what it was, the humidity, the noise, I just don't know but she's a much happier mare this time around," Blackiston said.

Blackiston says the five-year-old showed she has thrived since returning to her home environment with two strong efforts in jump-outs at Flemington.

Chad Schofield rode the Red Ransom mare in her two unofficial trials and will partner her in the Group Two contest over 1400 metres.

"Her two jump-outs have been very good, so good that I'm happy to run her on Saturday," Blackiston said.

Let's Make Adeal won first-up in easier company at Sandown last spring before she produced a terrific fourth in the Group One Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington.

The mare narrowly missed a Melbourne Cup start when she ran second in the Lexus Stakes and Blackiston will give Let's Make Adeal a chance to make the 2015 field.

"We got within a neck of doing it last year so I'm aware of how difficult the task will be," Blackiston said.

"That said, she is very well and I do think she is good enough to win a proper race so we will give her the chance."

Let's Make Adeal is a $26 chance in early Lawrence Stakes betting while last year's winner Puissance De Lune is a $3 favourite.
