Agitate and Londehero set for battle

Friday 14 February 2014, 12:51pm

BRISBANE February 14 AAP - The battle of tactics between the camps of quality three-year-olds Agitate and Londehero started long before they clash at Doomben on Saturday.

The flying Agitate and the stout finishing Londehero meet in the Ambassador Travel Hcp (1110m), which is the highlight of the meeting.

To add spice to the affair jockey Glen Colless, who won on Agitate at his last start, has switched to ride Londehero.

Dunn and Colless believe Agitate will ensure a fast pace by leading easily from gate one and allowing Londehero to get across to find cover.

However, Agitate's trainer Kelly Schweida threw a spanner in the works when he suggested his colt may not be ridden for sheer speed.

"If anyone wants to take him on we might take a sit," Schweida said.

Trainer Matt Dunn said Londehero was likely to run despite drawing barrier 18 (he will probably start from 13) at the toughest start for horses drawn wide in Queensland.

"He has to start his campaign somewhere and if we scratch he would have to go into a 1200m race in a fortnight without a run," Dunn said.

"Who is to say he wouldn't draw wide there as well and where would we be?"

Dunn has such a high opinion of Londehero he nominated for the Eskimo Prince Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday but elected to stay in Brisbane.

Londehero impressed Dunn in a recent trial win at Deagon with Colless on board and is ready for action.

Colless has ridden Londehero in six of his seven starts, featuring a win at Eagle Farm last September and a second in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic four months earlier.

Rick McMahon will need a medical clearance to ride Agitate after missing Wednesday's Eagle Farm meting with the flu.

Meanwhile, Dunn's impressive two-year-old colt Red Bowers will make his debut in the Jim Beam Hcp (1110m).

Red Bowers won a recent Deagon trial by six lengths but will have to overcome a tricky alley to win on Saturday.
