Nash Rawiller drives King Cobia to victory

Saturday 14 December 2013, 6:06pm

The advantage of having Nash Rawiller on side in a tight finish was clear to favourite punters when he all but lifted King Cobia over the finishing line at Randwick.

The $2.90 fancy in Saturday's TAB Rewards Handicap had no sooner got the better of leader One More Grand when Reflectance darted through towards the inside and stuck his nose in front.

But under the exaggerated urgings of Rawiller, the Gai Waterhouse-trained King Cobia rallied to regain a slight advantage and relegate Reflectance to second by a half head.

"Nash seems to get that extra three inches out of them every time he gets on them," Tulloch Lodge stable spokesman Mark Newnham said.

"He has been a really consistent horse this preparation and he hasn't put in a bad run at all."

Rawiller is no longer stable rider for Gai Waterhouse but Newnham said the heavyweight jockey would continue to be utilised.

"He's good to have on at any time, especially with horses who have got a bit of weight because they carry less dead weight around," he said.

King Cobia capped a winning run for owners the Tan family who have also celebrated success this week with Magic Millions hopeful Echo Gal, Darci Drama and Frespanol who won the opening race on Saturday's Randwick program.
