Magic Millions goal looms for Anna Lizzie

The rich Magic Millions carnival is the goal for Anna Lizzie this campaign but the path she takes will be clearer after she races at Doomben.

Trainer Craig Tyrrell is weighing up options for the mare who runs in Saturday's Just Now Handicap (1350m) at Doomben.

His original plan was to target the Stayers' Cup (1800m) on Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast on January 11 but a change in programming has prompted a re-think.

"After the Just Now I was originally going to go to the Bernborough Handicap then into the Magic Millions Stayers' Cup," Tyrrell said.

"But the Bernborough's been switched from Doomben to Toowoomba this year and I'm just not sure how the new track up there is going to stand up for the first meeting."

Tyrell is considering freshening Anna Lizzie after the Just Now and aiming the four-year-old at either the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) or Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Handicap (1300m).

"With the speed on in the shorter races she can sprint pretty quickly at the finish and that's the ideal scenario at the Gold Coast because they do run along there," he said.

Anna Lizzie was given three weeks off after she won a 1600m fillies and mares race at Doomben in October to take her record to five wins from just 10 starts.

"She hasn't had any trials or jump-outs but she'll be hitting the line pretty hard on Saturday," Tyrrell said.

The mare has won twice from three starts since joining Tyrrell's stable after the retirement of her previous trainer Alan Bailey.

"Nice and fresh seems to be the way she likes to race and that's how I've approached things since I've had her," he said.

Anna Lizzie will be ridden by Michael Cahill, replacing Glen Colless who is serving a careless-riding suspension.

Tyrrell has made a gear change to Anna Lizzie who will race in a Norton bit to prevent her from over-racing.
