Zaratone faces Kensington track challenge

Thursday 12 December 2013, 2:43pm

A versatility test looms for the fleet-footed Zaratone on Saturday as he tries to prove he is not a one-track wonder.

The gelding has shown a remarkable affinity for Rosehill during the latter half of his career, posting his past six wins at the western Sydney racetrack.

On Saturday he will be striving for his first success away from the circuit since January 2011 when he lines up in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1150m) on Randwick's inner Kensington track.

Zaratone raced twice at Kensington early in his career and finished among the tailenders both times.

While trainer Bjorn Baker concedes there might be a racecourse hoodoo working against Zaratone, he is content to give the in-form gelding his chance.

"You can't worry about that. It could be an issue, I'll tell you after Saturday," Baker said.

"But he's in great order. He's come through his last run well and I would be disappointed if he didn't run a great race on Saturday."

Zaratone claimed his second Starlight Stakes last start when he ran his rivals ragged with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

Regular rider Kathy O'Hara missed that race after suffering injuries in a race fall a day earlier but will reunite with him on Saturday.

"It's good to have her back on, she knows him and she will ride him well," Baker said.

Razor Sharp betting is dominated by Chris Waller's consistent Heart Testa ($3.30) and Club Command ($4.20) from the Peter Moody stable.
