Oliver turns focus to Cup with Fiorente

Thursday 17 October 2013, 9:11am

Damien Oliver says he is unlikely to appeal the suspension which rules him out of the Cox Plate ride on Fiorente.

But he still hopes to win the Melbourne Cup on the Gai Waterhouse-trained import.

"It was one of those unfortunate things that happened but we'll move on and hopefully have a successful Flemington carnival," Oliver said.

Oliver partnered Fiorente in a trackwork gallop at Moonee Valley on Thursday morning, a day after being suspended for careless riding at Caulfield.

Waterhouse said no decision had been made on a new jockey for Fiorente in the Cox Plate but Oliver was booked for the Melbourne Cup.

"It was disappointing but that's racing," Oliver said of the suspension.

"I'm still looking forward to staying with him and hopefully we can make amends and win the Melbourne Cup."

Fiorente was one of four Cox Plate-bound horses to work at Moonee Valley, the others being Puissance De Lune and internationals Mull Of Killough and Side Glance.
