Green Moon, Sea Moon to miss Caulfield Cup

Monday 14 October 2013, 11:34am

Fawkner will be owner Lloyd Williams' only Caulfield Cup runner meaning weights for the $2.5 million handicap will be raised to the relief of many jockeys.

Williams had a host of high-profile horses in contention for Saturday's feature including last year's Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon and Saturday's Herbert Power Stakes winner Sea Moon.

But Racing Victoria stewards said the stable had advised Fawkner would be its only acceptor on Tuesday.

It means weights for the Caulfield Cup (2400m) will be raised 1.5kg with Green Moon, who had 58kg, and Sea Moon, who had 57kg, not running.

A 58kg minimum topweight is required for the Caulfield Cup which will now be Manighar.

Fawkner finished third in the Group One Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington last start.

The raising of the weights means Nash Rawiller will be able to ride second favourite Royal Descent at 54kg and Brett Prebble will go on English horse Forgotten Voice who will now gain a start.
