Sharnee Rose earns a trip home

Saturday 12 October 2013, 6:00pm

Paddock rest will have to wait for in-form mare Sharnee Rose who has earned a trip home with a Group Three victory at Randwick.

Formerly trained in Melbourne and a Group One placegetter in the 2011 Thousand Guineas, Sharnee Rose was transferred to Kris Lees at Newcastle earlier this year to try to recapture her winning ways.

She has done that in style at her past two starts, backing up her Golden Pendant victory two weeks ago with her win in Saturday's Group Three Angst Stakes (1600m).

Lees said her form dictated he should take a good look at next month's Group One Myer Classic at Flemington.

"I had always planned to spell her and I'll keep an open mind but we should look at Melbourne now," Lees said.

"She hadn't been tried at a mile for a while before today and I had some reservations but she handled it well.

"We will let the dust settle before we decide what to do but the Myer Classic looks like a target.

"When you have a mare in form they hold it and she is racing consistently.

"Brenton (Avdulla) gave her a gun ride. It helps when you draw well but it was a great ride."

Avdulla had Sharnee Rose ($7) in a good position behind the speed from barrier three and unleashed her in the straight where she put paid to Queenstown ($5 eq fav) by three-quarters of a length.

The win brought up the second leg of a race-to-race double for Lees and Australian Bloodstock after European import Salon Soldier made a winning debut for his new stable in a Benchmark 90 race.
