Boom times ahead for bargain-buy Quanyin

Friday 21 September 2018, 10:25am

Talented filly Quanyin is set to confirm she is the bargain buy of top sire Spirit Of Boom's first crop wen she races at the Sunshine Coast.

Quanyin was third in a blanket finish in a top-quality three-year-old race at Doomben two weeks ago.

She meets another smart field in the Marcoola SLSC Nippers Handicap (1000m) on Saturday.

Trainer Bruce Brown picked Quanyin up for $23,000 at the Magic Millions sales and she has already surpassed that in prize money and bonus payments.

"I reckon she is a bargain buy now," Brown said.

"The Spirit Of Booms averaged twice that at the most recent sales and I think on her breeding she could be worth a lot more than even that," he said.

"When you have a QTIS horse and especially a filly you have to chase the bonus races. Saturday's race is worth $80,000 to the winner if she is a QTIS filly."

Brown is happy for the moment to chase QTIS money but has not given up hope Quanyin can develop into a Magic Millions carnival horse.
